Match Preview: Grimsby Town (H)

Tranmere Rovers will be looking to make it three home wins on the bounce when Grimsby Town travel to Prenton Park this Saturday (3pm kick-off).

Following Tuesday’s 2-1 victory over Bradford, Nigel Adkins’ side will be hoping to carry the momentum into this weekend’s clash.

The visitors also come into the match on the back of a 2-1 victory, beating Barrow at home on Tuesday night.

Grimsby are currently 16th in League Two having won one of their last six games.

 

Team news: 

Nigel Adkins confirmed in Thursday’s press conference that everyone in his squad is in contention for the game apart from Jake Leake, Luke Norris and Chris Merrie who are working hard on their respective recoveries from injury.

Paul Lewis and Reece McAlear have been taking part in training this week and will be assessed ahead of the game.

One to watch: Abo Eisa

Wide forward Eisa already has five goals for Grimsby so far this season having joined from Tuesday’s opponents Bradford City in the summer.

He was voted League Two Player of the Month in August after a bright start to the season.

After beginning his senior playing career in non-league with Uxbridge and Wealdstone, The Sudan-born winger moved to Shrewsbury Town in 2018, before spending part of 2019 on loan at Colchester United.

After a couple of years at Scunthorpe United, Eisa joined Bradford where he spent another two years prior to his move this summer.

 

Manager: Paul Hurst

49-year-old Hurst spent most of his playing career with Rotherham United, where he played over 430 league games.

Now an experienced manager, the Sheffield-born man has taken charge at Shrewsbury, Ipswich Town and Scunthorpe before his second spell in charge of Grimsby.

Hurst was previously joint manager between 2011 and 2013, before taking the reigns in sole charge between 2013 and 2016, gaining promotion from the National League with the Mariners in 2015/16.
