Match Report: Tranmere Rovers 2-1 Bradford City

3 October 2023

Tranmere Rovers beat Bradford City 2-1 on Tuesday evening thanks to goals from Regan Hendry and Kieron Morris.

Bradford went close first on 5 minutes when Jamie Walker struck the post with a curling effort from the edge of the box.

Alex Pattison found space on the right of the box for the visitors to shoot at goal five minutes later, but Luke McGee tipped the effort over his crossbar.

Walker was played through on goal shortly after, but McGee saved smartly one on one.

Rovers had a chance on 21 minutes when Harvey Saunders’ volley after a corner routine went over the bar and into the Cowshed.

Tranmere took the lead three minutes later when Bradford stopper Harry Lewis could only get a palm to Regan Hendry’s shot from the edge of the box before it struck the back of the net for the midfielder’s first of the season.

Bradford continued to threaten, former Rovers striker Cook forcing McGee into a reaction save seven minutes from the break with a header, but Tranmere took their one-goal lead into the break.

The visitors equalised on 55 minutes through Cook, the striker heading a cross into the net.

Jamie Walker tried an acrobatic effort from the edge of the box five minutes later, but it was just over the bar.

Rovers won a penalty on 64 minutes when Saunders was felled in the box, but Lewis saved Josh Hawkes’ spot-kick.

Joe Yarney went close with a header from a corner ten minutes later but saw his effort fall into the hands of Lewis.

Rovers regained the lead on 83 minutes when Kieron Morris struck in front of the Kop after a slick move from the whites.

Tranmere ultimately held on to take the victory and make it consecutive home wins.
