Match Report: Tranmere Rovers 2-2 Grimsby Town

7 October 2023

Tranmere Rovers battled to a 2-2 draw with Grimsby Town on Saturday afternoon following goals from Kieron Morris and Connor Jennings.

Rovers started brightly, several slick moves looking to find the run of Harvey Saunders, but Grimsby dealt with the early threat.

Tranmere opened the scoring on 16 minutes when Connor Jennings slipped Kieron Morris in on the keeper, Morris tapping home to give us the lead.

Grimsby responded with a spell of pressure of their own, but strong Rovers defending including a big block from Joe Yarney kept them at bay for the time being.

They eventually found an equaliser ten minutes after Rovers’ opener, Danny Rose going one on one with Luke McGee before sliding the ball home.

Grimsby forged ahead on 44 minutes when substitute Rekeil Pyke found space in the box to turn and shoot at goal, as the visitors took their lead into the break.

The Rovers faithful were in good voice in the second half, spurring Tranmere on to get back into the game.

McGee produced a spectacular point-blank save from Pyke ten minutes into the second period when the striker was found free in the box.

Rovers grabbed an equaliser just past the hour mark when Connor Jennings nodded home to make the Kop explode into even more noise.

McGee made another fantastic save ten minutes later when Abo Eisa looked to curl the ball into the bottom corner, but Mr. Reliable was there once again.

Rovers pushed on searching for an equaliser with Charlie Jolley on to join Kristian Dennis up front, but ultimately couldn’t quite find it as the spoils were shared.
