In an exhilarating match on Sunday afternoon, Tranmere Rovers Women and Salford Lionesses engaged in an eight-goal thriller, ultimately sharing the points. Tranmere had to come from behind three times during the contest, and goals from Izzy Arrowsmith, Holly Jones, and Lorna Stratton secured a valuable point at Ellesmere Port Sports Village.
Tranmere Rovers Women got off to a slow start, allowing the visitors to establish an early two-goal lead as Newhouse and Duce capitalised on an unguarded midfield, slotting two brilliant goals past Size. Salford controlled possession, while Tranmere had limited chances.
As the first half progressed, Tranmere Rovers Women found their stride and began creating opportunities. Izzy Arrowsmith applied pressure up front, inducing a mistake between the defenders and the keeper, calmly slotting the ball into the net with 10 minutes left in the first half, pulling Rovers back into the game.
The second half witnessed a significantly improved performance from Tranmere, as they dominated possession and came close to equalising on several occasions. Holly Jones seized an opportunity, capitalising on a defensive error to score a goal. However, Salford quickly regained the lead when Battle took advantage of a forward pass from Robinson and calmly found the back of the net.
The intense battle continued, and Tranmere equalised once more through Arrowsmith, who timed her run perfectly to connect with a Smith free kick and calmly dispatched the ball past Megeary. As the clock ticked into added time, Salford was awarded a free-kick on the edge of the box. Duce stepped up, and although Size managed to get a hand on her curling effort, she couldn't prevent the brilliantly struck ball from finding the net.
It appeared that defeat was looming for Tranmere, but in the closing seconds of the game, Lorna Stratton capitalised on a rebound, levelling the score once again.
Both teams exhibited unwavering determination throughout the match, resulting in a hard-fought battle that concluded with both sides earning a point.
Up next for Tranmere Rovers Women is another home fixture in the league against Blackburn Community Sports Club, scheduled for a 2 pm kickoff at Ellesmere Port Sports Village.
