Cheshire Senior Cup Preview | Stockport County (A)

25 September 2023

Tranmere are in Cheshire Senior Cup first round action on Tuesday 26th September, as they meet Stockport County at Edgeley Park (7.30pm kick-off).

Rovers come into the game off the back of a 2-0 league win against Accrington Stanley on Saturday, thanks to a Josh Hawkes brace.

County have been victorious in their last three, including a 5-0 thrashing of Wrexham at the weekend.

The Hatters have won the competition on six occasions, most recently in 2022 when they beat Vauxhall Motors 5-0 in the final.

Manager: Dave Challinor

Dave Challinor is a man that needs no introduction to Rovers fans.

The former defender began his career at Prenton Park and made over 100 appearances for the SWA in an eight-year spell. He played in our 1999/00 run to the League Cup final, culminating in a 2-1 loss to Leicester City at Wembley.

His managerial journey began at Colwyn Bay, before joining AFC Fylde in 2011. He would spend eight years with the Coasters, winning three promotions from the eighth tier to the National League, and the FA Trophy in 2019.

Challinor guided Hartlepool United to promotion back to League Two via the play-offs in 2021, and then moved to Stockport where he spent two years as a player.

With the Hatters, Challinor won the National League title in 2022 and reached the Sky Bet League Two play-off final last season.
