Match Preview | Crawley Town (A)

14 September 2023

Tranmere Rovers travel to Crawley Town’s Broadfield Stadium on Saturday 16th September (3pm), as Nigel Adkins takes his first game as interim manager.

The former Southampton boss took temporary charge of the team on Sunday and aims to set his side back on the winning track from the off.

Crawley have had an inconsistent start to the league season, winning three, drawing two and losing two. They come into Saturday’s game in high spirits, though, after a 4-1 victory against Newport County last weekend.

The Reds beat Tranmere 2-1 at the Broadfield Stadium last season, but Rovers were victorious in each of their four meetings before this.

Team news:

Speaking in his pre-match interview, Adkins highlighted Luke Norris, Lee O’Connor, Harvey Saunders, Paul Lewis and Jake Leake as those who are recovering from injuries at present.

"They're all desperate to get back and be involved, they're working really hard," he said. "We've got a great medical team here, and they're being well taken care of.

"They're hurting as well, because they're not in the team and want to be able to help their teammates. I'm really pleased with the way they've applied themselves and the sooner we get them back, the better for everybody."

YouTube members can get early access to Nigel Adkins' pre-match interview, before it is released publicly at 12pm on Friday.

One to watch: Adam Campbell

After racking up over 100 appearances in League Two for Notts County, Morecambe and Carlisle United, Adam Campbell has spent the last four years successfully plying his trade in non-league.

He was part of the free-scoring Gateshead side that won the 2021/22 National League North title, scoring 12 that season, before netting 13 times in the fifth-tier last term.

The forward has made a triumphant return to the EFL with Crawley, scoring in back-to-back games, including twice in the victory over Newport.

Head Coach: Scott Lindsey

Lindsey was appointed first-team coach at Lincoln City in 2009. He went on to take interim charge of the side following the departure of Chris Sutton.

He became the under 18’s manager at Swindon Town in 2014. He left two years later to take on the role of assistant manager at Forest Green Rovers.

Lindsey went back to Swindon in 2021 as assistant manager and was appointed head coach the following summer.

In January 2023, he left the County Ground to join Crawley, initially on a two-and-a-half-year deal.
