Neil Danns: "I'm proud of the performance"

26 September 2023

Assistant Manager Neil Danns is "proud" of his Tranmere side, after they beat Stockport County 2-0 in the Cheshire Senior Cup first round.

Rovers secured victory at Edgeley Park with goals from Harvey Saunders and Rob Apter, his first for the Club since joining on loan from Blackpool.

Danns led the side in place of interim boss Nigel Adkins, who watched on from the stands as several players staked their claim to play in Saturday's match at AFC Wimbledon.

"I thought the boys were fantastic tonight," said Danns post-match. "I'm really proud of the performance.

"A lot of them haven't played much football, we've got players coming back from injury. We said to them before the game, use tonight to get minutes."

Jean Belehouan and Joe Starbuck were handed debuts after signing for the Club yesterday, and Danns was keen to complement their efforts.

"The two new lads have come in and had a really good performance tonight. We got a lot out of it, players' fitness, I think we've come out of it unscathed so a good night."
