Match Preview | Accrington Stanley (A)

26 April 2024

Tranmere Rovers take the trip to Accrington Stanley on Saturday 27th April (3pm kick-off) in our final game of the 2023/24 campaign.

Following consecutive victories at Newport and against AFC Wimbledon, Nigel Adkins’ side will be looking to end the season on a high against 18th-placed Accrington.

Rovers have won 9 of their last 13 games with Saturday’s opposition, and will be aiming for another victory this weekend.

Team news:

Jordan Turnbull has had successful surgery on his shoulder and will miss the final game, and Brad Walker has also undergone successful surgery on an ankle problem, keeping him out of this game.

Kieron Morris, Tom Davies, Connor Wood and Joe Yarney have all missed the last couple of games and will be assessed ahead of this one.

One to watch: Jack Nolan

22-year-old winger Nolan has 15 goals and 9 assists for Stanley this season, taking a total of 76 shots across 47 goals, so will be a threat from the right.

The Portsmouth-born player played his youth football for Reading, before moving up to Walsall in January 2020 and making his professional debut with the Saddlers.

In August 2021, Nolan moved to Accrington, then of League One, and has scored all of his 15 goals for his current side during this campaign.

Manager: John Doolan

55-year-old Doolan is in his first managerial role, after taking the reigns following the departure of John Coleman back in March.

The Scouser was initially appointed interim manager, before being given a three-year permanent contract after picking up four points in his three-game interim spell.

He has previously worked in the academies of Everton, Liverpool and Wigan Athletic, before first-team coaching roles with the Latics as well as Hibernian and Rotherham United with Alan Stubbs.

Officials:

Referee - Martin Woods

Assistant Referees - Alex Gray and Ivan Stankovic

Fourth Official - Karl Buckley

Woods last refereed Tranmere in our 3-1 defeat at Swindon in February.
