Match Preview | Doncaster Rovers (A)

10 February 2024

Tranmere Rovers head to Doncaster Rovers on Saturday 10th February (3pm kick-off), looking to continue their strong form on the road.

Nigel Adkins’ side have won three of their last four away from home, those coming against Salford City, Harrogate Town and, most recently, Grimsby Town.

Tranmere drew 0-0 with Crewe Alexandra at Prenton Park last Saturday, while Doncaster scored a last-gasp equaliser to draw 1-1 at Sutton United.

That point could prove crucial for Grant McCann’s men, who find themselves in 22nd in League Two after a run of four league games without a win. They are seven points clear of the drop zone, currently occupied by Sutton and Forest Green Rovers.

Team news:

Jéan Belehouan and Luke Norris have been training with the group this week but won’t be available for the next few games at least.

Manager Nigel Adkins says the Club plan to set up a behind-closed-doors friendly in the week following the Stockport County game to give the duo some minutes.

Jake Leake remains the only other unavailable player at this moment in time.

One to watch: Joe Ironside

Doncaster’s talisman Joe Ironside remains a constant goal threat as Doncaster look to claw back some form.

The forward has registered 12 goals and four assists for the South Yorkshire side this season, most recently scoring a vital stoppage time penalty in a 1-1 draw at Sutton.

Ironside was a regular fixture in the Cambridge United side that won promotion from League Two in 2020/21. He scored 34 goals in 125 league appearances for the U’s and spent two years in the third tier with the club.

As a youngster, Ironside played in the Academy at Sheffield United and reached the 2011 FA Youth Cup Final.

Manager: Grant McCann

Grant McCann returned to the Eco-Power Stadium in May, having previously managed Donny in the 2018/19 season.

The 43-year-old began his playing career in West Ham’s youth setup and joined Cheltenham Town in 2003 after two loan spells with the Robins.

A period at Barnsley followed before McCann joined Scunthorpe United, managed by Nigel Adkins. With the Iron, he won the League One Play-Offs in 2009.

His maiden first-team managerial role came with Peterborough United following a five-year stint with the Posh as a player. His opening spell with Doncaster followed, before two-and-a-half years with Hull City where he won the League One title in 2021.
