Tranmere Rovers saw off Warrington Rylands in the Liverpool Senior Cup Quarter Final on Tuesday evening by two goals to one.
Rovers got on the ball straight from the off, and had a chance four minutes in when Reece McAlear forced a save out of former Tranmere youngster Luke Pilling.
Tranmere had a penalty 11 minutes into the game when Paul Lewis was fouled in the box. Dennis stepped up and sent Pilling the wrong way to put Rovers ahead.
James Norris broke through on the left just three minutes later to double Rovers’ lead.
Just short of the half-hour mark, Rovers almost had a third but Dan Pike struck the post after a driving run into the box.
Seven minutes from the break, Rovers had the ball in the back of the net for a third time, this one from Lewis, but the referee pulled play back for an offside offence.
Rovers eventually went in two ahead at the break.
Five minutes into the second period, Jordan Mustoe was sent off for the hosts after an altercation.
Rylands pulled one back three minutes short of the hour mark when Dan Cockerline looped a header over Conor Robson.
Rovers ultimately battled on to see out the victory and progress to the semi-finals of the Liverpool Senior Cup.
