Residents of the Beechwood estate have been benefitting from our free pass scheme in partnership with Beechwood, Ballantyne and Bidston Village Big Local.
People who live within the above areas can claim a free pass for the gym at Tranmere Rovers Beechwood Recreation Centre for up to six sessions.
Jimmy, a local resident, has been able to introduce his family to the gym thanks to the scheme.
“My daughter came down with my wife. My daughter’s never done a tap of fitness in her life, and she enjoyed it, it’s good for her.
“You can’t beat the prices here, and you can come in and do everything you need to do. It’s so much better than a corporate gym as there’s a community feel here where you can talk to everyone.”
“It’s about getting that routine. Getting in, starting, and getting that rhythm. The six free visits really helps because it gives you a wee bit of time to get into it.”
Jimmy is blind so can struggle to find his way around the gym, but our centre staff have accommodated him by placing stickers with different feel patterns on the machines so that he knows which machine he is working with.
“It’s so much easier for me. They cater for me. Some of the bigger corporate gyms, it’s not as easy for me, it restricts the things I can do. Here, they tell me, if you want it, tell us, and we’ll do our very best to make it as easy as possible for you. It’s up to me to look out for me, but the fact that the staff here are willing to help, is great.
Ste also comes along to the gym and says coming along has helped his mental health improve.
“It’s great for the community that we’ve got this on the estate. I used to suffer with my mental health, and I started training here again and it’s picked me back up, keeping me focused. It’s a cracking gym.”
