Match Preview | Grimsby Town (A)

25 January 2024

Tranmere Rovers return to action at Grimsby Town on Saturday 27th January, following a two-week period without a match.

Nigel Adkins’ side were set to head to Swindon Town last weekend, but the game was postponed due to a frozen pitch at the County Ground.

Rovers now travel to Grimsby looking to return to winning ways, after defeat to Milton Keynes Dons last time out ended their excellent run at home.

The Mariners’ fixture at Harrogate Town last weekend also fell victim to the freezing temperatures. They played out an entertaining 5-5 draw against Notts County two weeks ago.

David Artell took charge of the opposition in November and, so far, has a league record of two wins, three draws and three losses.

Tickets can be bought online by clicking here or in The Club Store.

Team news:

Nigel Adkins says that every member of his Rovers squad, except Luke Norris, Jéan Belehouan and Jake Leake, is available for selection.

The boss also confirmed that Belehouan is back running on the grass for the first time since picking up his injury.

One to watch: Danny Rose

Forward Danny Rose has been in good goalscoring form in recent weeks, finding the net in each of his last three matches.

The 30-year-old won promotion to League One with Stevenage last term before signing for the Mariners in the summer, where he has ten league goals.

Rose spent four years with Mansfield Town from 2016 to 2020, where he made over 150 appearances hit the target 44 times.

He has also had spells with Northampton Town, Bury and Barnsley.

Head Coach: David Artell

David Artell took on the Head Coach role at Grimsby in November 2023, following the departure of Paul Hurst.

The 43-year-old has previously only managed Crewe Alexandra, who he won promotion to League One with as a player before repeating the feat while at the helm, in 2020.

Artell spent 16 years in the Football League as a player and took on the managerial role at Crewe in 2017, where he spent five years.

Officials:

Referee - Paul Howard

Assistant Referees - Ivan Stankovic & Declan Ford

Fourth Official - Stephen Wade

Howard last refereed Rovers in our 1-0 league loss to Morecambe in October 2023. He has given 63 yellow cards this season at a rate of 3.71 per game, and a total of two red cards.
