Tranmere Rovers deliver Super White Christmas '23 with help of partners

10 January 2024

Thanks to the support of our partners, local businesses and the SWA, Tranmere Rovers successfully delivered Super White Christmas for the seventh consecutive year during the month of December 2023.

The initiative, which is now an integral part of our community work, enabled thousands of people across Wirral to enjoy the festive period.

On 9th December, we hosted a Christmas party and matchday experience for 80 local children. They participated in multisport activities and games, received a meal, a visit from Santa Claus as well as a ticket to enjoy our 2-1 victory over Newport County. Each child also received a gift set.

Argyle Taxis kindly sponsored our kids' Christmas party at Beechwood Recreation Centre on 20th December, where 50 children and their families were invited to an event that included food, entertainment and festive activities. Again, each child received a gift set to take away.

GRAHAM, a construction company who are currently working in Wirral generously sponsored our third event on 23rd December. This event was open for adults who are homeless, living in hostels or who were isolated and otherwise vulnerable. Over 70 people enjoyed a hot meal, karaoke and festive activities before each receiving a gift set and a ticket to watch our 2-1 win over Swindon Town.

We also supported children leaving care and in collaboration with the Tranmere Trust delivered over 300 food hampers to residents and families in need.

Finally, Calday Grange Grammar School and Spire Murrayfield Hospital collected over 1000 toys/gifts which we then distributed to families facing economic hardship and parents/carers whose children were seriously ill in hospital over Christmas.

Head of Business Development and Community, Matt Houghton, said:

'Once again, the generosity of our commercial partners including Essar Oil UK Ltd and Argyle Taxis, our fans and the wider Wirral community has meant that many families and individuals who are facing challenging times were able to be welcomed to the club and enjoy the festive period. Super White Christmas wouldn't be able to happen without the collective efforts of all those who donated money, toys/gifts and their time. I'd like to thank everyone who helped us help others and give a special mention to the Tranmere Rovers in the Community (TRIC) team who worked tirelessly to ensure all the events ran smoothly.'
