Match Preview | Sutton United (H)

1 March 2024

Tranmere Rovers host Sutton United at Prenton Park on Saturday March 2nd (3pm kick-off).

Nigel Adkins’ side will be keen for a return to winning ways after consecutive defeats on the road, hoping to recapture the momentum generated by their last outing at Prenton Park, a 4-0 win over Stockport County.

Sutton are bottom of League Two and fighting to retain their EFL status, though picked up three points at Notts County in midweek, beating the Magpies 4-3.

Rovers were just two points ahead of the South London side when the pair drew 1-1 at the VBS Stadium in November, but have now formed a 14-point cushion to the bottom.

Team news:

Everyone in the Rovers squad, except for Jake Leake, is available for selection to face Sutton on Saturday.

One to watch: Charlie Lakin

Midfielder Charlie Lakin joined Sutton on loan from Burton Albion during the January transfer window and has impressed in front of goal in recent weeks.

The 24-year-old found the net against Wrexham three weeks ago, and has since added goals against Colchester United, in a crucial match at the bottom, and Notts County.

Formerly of Birmingham City, Lakin has made 29 League One appearances for Burton Albion, and has also featured for the likes of Doncaster Rovers and AFC Wimbledon, the latter for the first half of this season.

Manager: Steve Morison

A two-time League One Play-Off winner with Millwall, Steve Morison embarked on a career in management with Cardiff City’s U23’s in 2020, before being appointed first-team manager the following year, initially on an interim basis.

Morison left Cardiff in September 2022 and returned to management nine months later with non-league side Hornchurch. A successful first half of the season followed, before he joined Sutton in January of this year.
