Match Preview | Mansfield Town (H)

11 March 2024

Tranmere Rovers host league leaders Mansfield Town in our Her Game Too fixture on Tuesday 12th March (7.45pm kick off).

Rovers were victorious in their last outing at Prenton Park, beating Sutton United 1-0, before a 1-1 draw away to Play-Off hopefuls Gillingham on Saturday.

The visitors, Mansfield, are in great form, recently replacing Stockport County at the top of the table. Nigel Clough's side have won three of their last four matches.

The sides met in November at One Call Stadium, drawing 2-2 under the lights. Rovers led twice on the night, with goals from Charlie Jolley and Rob Apter.

Tuesday's game is dedicated to Her Game Too, who aim to raise awareness of sexism in sport. The group have surveyed over 400 female football fans to build a wider picture of the experiences they have faced when attending games, and it is clear from that work that many have had unacceptable experiences.

Team news:

Rovers were without Tom Davies, Brad Walker, Kieron Morris and Josh Hawkes for Saturday's game at Gillingham. Manager Nigel Adkins says there are one or two issues, including illness, in the camp but he will assess where the squad is ahead of Tuesday.

One to watch: Davis Keillor-Dunn

Davis Keillor-Dunn has starred for Mansfield since moving to One Call Stadium in January 2023, playing a crucial role in the Stags' climb to the top of the League Two table.

The attacking midfielder has registered 18 goals and six assists in the division this season. His side have won 12 of the 15 games in which he has scored, drawing the other three.

On Saturday, Keillor-Dunn's goal and assist proved pivotal as Mansfield beat Swindon Town 3-2 to stay three points clear of Stockport below them.

The 26-year-old had ten goal contributions in the second half of the last campaign, after a winter move from Burton Albion. Before joining the Brewers, he had spells with Ross County, Falkirk and Wrexham, and scored 28 goals over two seasons with Oldham Athletic.

Manager: Nigel Clough

Stags manager Nigel Clough played over 600 games in the Football League, winning the League Cup on two occasions with Nottingham Forest.

He signed his first professional deal at the City Ground in 1984, where he featured over 300 times, scoring over 100 goals.

Clough later played for Liverpool and Manchester City among others, before joining Burton Albion as player-manager in 1998. He stayed there until his retirement as a player in 2009, enjoying great success in non-league.

The 57-year-old went on to manage Derby County, Sheffield United and Burton Albion for a second time, and was appointed Mansfield boss in 2020.
