Surabaya partnership extended

27 March 2024

Tranmere Rovers Football Club are thrilled by the announcement that Liverpool City Region and Surabaya, Indonesia have extended their sister-city status.

Since the signing of the initial Memorandum of Understanding (MMU) in 2018, Rovers have been a driving force in maintaining the relationship between the two cities.

International coaches Matt Hunter and Dan O’Donnell have previously travelled to Surabaya, hosting a number of sessions with local children and immersing themselves in the culture. Matt and Dan will be heading back to Indonesia in May, hoping to further strengthen ties between Rovers and Surabaya State University.

Speaking on the extension, Mayor Steve Rotherham spoke of his pride in the Club’s part in working to “develop football skills” across the Surabaya region. Mr. Rotherham also spoke of how the Club’s work has meant that the Liverpool City Region remains “well-placed to benefit” from the agreement.
