TRIC host netball and football tournament with Wirral Ways for Mental Health Awareness Week

14 May 2024

Tranmere Rovers in the Community today hosted a netball and football tournament with Wirral Ways’ staff and service users for Mental Health Awareness Week.

Wirral Ways provide free and confidential drug and alcohol services across the Wirral, and we have been hosting football sessions in conjunction with them twice a week for several years, also taking a team to represent both Wirral Ways and Tranmere Rovers in the Community at Liverpool Homeless Football Club’s monthly Spirit of Merseyside League events.

The regular sessions are hugely beneficial for not just the participants’ physical but their mental health, and today's tournament was a way of engaging both staff and service users together.

Ray Smith from Wirral Ways said: “We’re here today because we believe that sport brings everyone together and helps people with their mental health and their all-round physical health so we set up netball and football. We’ve got our friends from the Wirral, Sefton and Knowsley here.

“It’s a social activity that as Wirral Ways, we’ve been organising with Tranmere for many years, the football, but now we’re starting the netball as well with the lovely Katie Owen, so hopefully we’ll have many years where everyone will be able to play netball.”
