Captain Stephen McNulty was born in Liverpool and began his career with Liverpool Football Club.

A leader from the start, McNulty captained Liverpool’s U19s until his release from the club in 2003. He would then go on to sign for Northern Premiership side Burscough for who he played for between the 2003/04 and 2004/05 seasons.

McNulty then moved up a division to the Conference North. He signed for Vauxhall Motors where he would stay for two seasons before joining divisional rivals Barrow at the beginning of the 2007/08 season.

He captained the side to a Conference North Play-Off win that same season but Barrow would finish just above the relegation zone the next year. McNulty would then go down a division to sign for Fleetwood Town at the end of the 2009/10 season where he won another Conference North Play-Off in his first term for the club.

The centre-half played 126 times for Fleetwood where he would win the Conference Premier in the 2011/12 season alongside England International Jamie Vardy.

The 2012/13 season would be his last with Fleetwood and he left in the winter to join Luton Town.He enjoyed a four-year spell at Luton boasting another Conference Premier title in the 2013/14 season. 

McNulty played 41 times in the 2014/15 season and was a consistent performer earning his spot in the PFA League Two Team of the Year.

The Liverpool man joined Tranmere half way through the 2015/16 season and played a vital role in sealing promotion back to the English Football League.
