Ryan Williams

Date of birth

173 cm

Ryan Williams was initially from Birkenhead so he knows exactly what it means to play for Tranmere Rovers. The local lad came through the youth ranks at Chester City and made his debut for them during the 2008/09 season.

However, a heavy ankle injury saw him depart the Club in the summer of that season. He would then spend the next three seasons in Wales. At the beginning of the 2009/10 season, he joined Colwyn Bay before being sent on loan to Llandudno for the 2010/11 season where he scored a combined eight goals in in 26 appearances during both seasons.  For the 2011/12 term, he signed for Rhyl and played for them until mid-way through the 2012/13 season. He appeared 35 times for Denbighshire side and netted 16 goals respectively, his most prolific spell during his career.

From the northern Welsh seaside, Williams would move on to League Two side Morecambe during the 2012/13 season. He made 61 appearances for Morecambe over the course of three seasons and scored six times including a strike that won him the 2013/14 League Two Goal of the Season.  Life after Morecambe was followed by a spell at Championship Brentford for the 2015/16 season. Chances were limited, however, his niche for free-kick taking and long-range strikes and was used as a set-piece coach before joining Inverness Caledonian Thistle for the remainder of that season.

The British Isles weren’t enough for Williams and he sought his next challenge in Canada. He signed for Ottawa Fury where he enjoyed two seasons playing 38 times, scored nine goals and picked up Ottawa Fury Fans’ Player of the Year in 2016.

From Canada to Brazil it was for Williams and he joined Campeonato Brasileiro Serie B side Paysandu but unfortunately, registration issues limited him to just one appearance and he returned home to Birkenhead to play for Rovers and made his debut against Shrewsbury Town in the Checkatrade Trophy.
