Tranmere Rovers to host online coaching session to coaches and teachers in Surabaya City!

8 October 2021

Tranmere Rovers’ continued growth in Indonesia has taken a step forward with the Club hosting a six-week series of online training sessions for coaches and PE teachers in Surabaya City.

The sessions, organised and ran by Tranmere Rovers coaches Dan O'Donnell and Matt Hunter, will cover a wide range of technical football topics as well as insights into other aspects of the game such as sports science, nutrition, analysis and talent identification.

The inaugural session was held earlier this week, dedicated as an opening ceremony with a number of VIP attendees from both Indonesia and the UK.

Mayor Eri Cahyadi of Surabaya City, UK Ambassador to Indonesia - Ambassador Owen Jenkins, Indonesia Ambassador to the UK - Ambassador Desra Percaya, Club Director Wandi Wanandi Santini Group and Tranmere Rovers Chairman, Mark Palios, were all in attendance.

Alongside those, 250 coaches and PE teachers also tuned in for the opening ceremony, proving to a very successful day and provided a platform for an exciting five weeks of online training sessions to come.

The coaches, who will participate over the course of the next five weeks, are from main football schools in Surabaya and will be given an insight into areas such as sports science, nutrition, talent identification and analysis.

International Technical Director, O’Donnell, said: “We are excited to be able to offer our support to Surabaya based football coaches during these challenging times. This online training series will act as an introduction to the professional methods we use at the Club though our ability to tailor the delivery will mean that coaches are able to implement what they learn into their own environment.

We experienced the huge enthusiasm and passion for football in Surabaya when we visited in 2020 and we look to forward to extending our support throughout this series and beyond.”

The International department are planning on visiting Surabaya in February 2022 to meet the coaches and teachers in person, to see how they have implemented what they have learned from the online sessions into their day-to-day roles.
