Tranmere Rovers host Eid prayers at Prenton Park for second year

10 April 2024

Tranmere Rovers opened our doors at Prenton Park to our local Muslim community to host the Eid al-Fitr prayers this morning, for the second year running.

Rovers became the second football club in the UK to host the Eid prayers on a football pitch last year, and working in partnership with Wirral Deen Centre Mosque and Community Centre, hosted prayer again this morning.

Eid al-Fitr follows the completion of the fasting month of Ramadan, were Muslims typically fast by refraining from eating and drinking during daylight hours.

Rovers welcomed hundreds of people onto the Prenton Park pitch to pray in Jama'ah with our local Muslim community.

Chairman Mark Palios was in attendance to greet those in attendance and wish them Eid Mubarak.

Ibrahim Syed, Community Leader at Wirral Deen Centre, said: “I think it’s wonderful because it’s a central focus for the whole community. We’ve had people from across Wirral but also across Merseyside.

“People are excited and happy to be here, and it’s just a wonderful experience. Even though we were a bit damp today, it hasn’t dampened our spirits!”
