Setting the scene…

Tranmere Rovers are back on their travels this Saturday when Micky Mellon’s side make the trip to Morecambe.

Rovers head to the Lancashire coast aiming to make it back-to-back wins following on from Tuesday night’s big win over league leaders Lincoln City.

James Norwood’s 61^st minute strike earned Tranmere a 1-0 victory under the Prenton Park floodlights, with the Rovers goalscorer also red carded in injury-time and will be suspended for the fixture away to the Shrimps.

Tranmere are now 10^th in League Two, a point off the Play-Off positions, following their triumph over the table-topping Imps.

Morecambe head into the contest after conceding a 94^th minute equaliser to draw 2-2 away at Cheltenham Town.

Jordan Cranston and Rhys Oates put Morecambe 2-1 up after Luke Varney equalised before the break, prior to Varney scoring a last-gasp leveller to deny Jim Bentley’s side a third straight win.

The Shrimps season so far

Following on from a slow start, Morecambe have enjoyed an upturn in results recently.

After their 6-0 opening day defeat at Crewe Alexandra, boss Bentley, now in his eighth season in the dugout, saw his men lose league games against Exeter City and Stevenage before securing their first win against Northampton Town in mid-August.

Since then, the Lancashire club have won a further two fixtures both by 2-1 scorelines against rock-bottom Macclesfield Town at home, and an away triumph at Grimsby Town.

Tuesday’s 2-2 draw at Cheltenham Town denied them a third-straight win, so they will be hoping to continue their form when they welcome Rovers to the Globe Arena.

Should Morecambe beat Tranmere, a win could see them rise to 17^th in the fourth-tier.

One to watch

Morecambe will be looking to forward Liam Mandeville to keep up their unbeaten run on Saturday afternoon.

The 21-year-old is on loan at the Globe Arena from Doncaster Rovers for the 2018/19 season, and has impressed so far, leading the way in the club’s goal-scoring charts alongside Rhys Oates.

Coming through the youth system at Doncaster, Mandeville made his Rovers debut in April 2015 against Yorkshire rivals Bradford City before joining non-league Whitby Town on loan later that year.

Since his debut, Mandeville has made 49 appearances, scoring nine league goals for the Keepmoat Stadium.

Mandeville joined Colchester United in January, turning out seven times for the Essex outfit towards the end of last term.

Since his move to Morecambe, Mandeville has made 12 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals.

The referee

Trevor Kettle will officiate Tranmere Rovers’ away game at Morecambe.

The Rutland-based referee will take charge of Mellon’s men for the first time this season at the Globe Arena.

This season he has refereed 12 games, brandishing 42 yellow cards and one red.

Duncan Street and Barry Cropp will run the line while Kevin Mulraine is the fourth official.

Tickets for Tranmere’s away game at Morecambe on Saturday remain on sale.

We have been allocated 1750 tickets for this fixture with 1200 of those being in the Heart Radio Stand behind the goal, which is covered standing.

The remaining 550 tickets are located in the PMG stand which is reserved seating.

Please be aware that the match is all ticket with no cash turnstiles on the day.

Morecambe 3-4 Tranmere

Tranmere Rovers came out on top of a seven goal thriller at the Globe Arena, winning 4-3 to seal back to back victories in League Two.

The points were sealed in the 89th minute, as Harvey Gilmour curled a fabulous strike beyond Barry Roche in the Morecambe goal in front of nearly 1,400 travelling Rovers supporters.

Ollie Banks, Gilmour and Jonny Smith cancelled out Rhys Oates’ opener, but two late goals from Vadaine Oliver and A-Jay Leitch Smith brought the game back level. Tranmere showed great spirit and ensured the points returned to Prenton Park, as Gilmour sealed his brace.

Micky Mellon made two changes from the win against league leaders Lincoln City, Gilmour and Paul Mullin replacing James Norwood and Cole Stockton, who missed out through injury and suspension respectively.

First chance of the game fell to the visitors with three minutes on the clock as Mullin created space in the Shrimps after a clever pass from Banks, but experienced goalkeeper Barry Roche was quick to react to palm away to safety.

Tranmere dominated the first ten minutes but against the run of play in the 13^th minute, Oates managed to find his way through the Rovers midfield and took a shot from 20 plus yards which creeped past Scott Davies.

Rovers however didn’t let the goal deflate their positive start and continued to control possession, but Morecambe were looking dangerous in the final third and finding space.

Tranmere’s positive play reaped reward just before the half hour mark as Banks levelled for the visitors, connecting cleanly with Gilmour’s right hand side free-kick.

Bristol City loan man Jonny Smith was causing havoc on the right hand side, and his tricky and pace constantly created goal scoring opportunities.

But it was from the opposite flank Rovers’ second goal came from, as Zoumana Bakayogo delivered a delightful cross from the left hand side for Gilmour to direct a diving header into the bottom left hand corner.

Into the second half, and Davies was put to the test within 60 seconds, tipping Andrew Tutte’s free-kick over the crossbar and into the home stand.

The second half matched up to the first for entertainment, as both sides created goal scoring opportunities within the first ten minutes. Smith had been threatening to score all game and he did just that in the 54th minute, bending the ball from the edge of the box past the stretched right arm of Roche.

Tranmere were the team in the ascendency in search of the fifth goal of the game, but in the 73rd minute, Morecambe were given a lifeline as Vadaine Oliver crashed a header home to give the Shrimps hope.

Manager Mellon reacted and brought on Dylan Mottley-Henry for the third goal scorer, Smith. Meanwhile, former Rovers man Kevin Ellison was introduced by their boss, Jim Bentley.

Morecambe found their equaliser with ten minutes to play, as A-Jay Leitch Smith flicked a backwards header into the far corner beyond Davies as Tranmere failed to clear a free-kick from the left flank.

The home side had the momentum but Tranmere had the belief and in the 89th minute, Gilmour struck a peach, worthy to win any game, after a phenomenal run from Bakayogo from left back to seal a brilliant win for Rovers.
