Match Preview: Accrington Stanley

5 March 2020

Setting the scene…

It’s a trip to the Wham Stadium for Tranmere Rovers this Saturday afternoon when Micky Mellon’s side take on Accrington Stanley in Sky Bet League One, kick-off 3pm.

Rovers, who are seven points from safety with two games in hand, return to action following last weekend’s home postponement against Fleetwood Town.

John Coleman’s Stanley welcome Rovers to East Lancashire currently in 16th place on 40 points.

Team news

George Ray could be available for selection after returning from a groin injury in Tuesday’s Cheshire Senior Cup tie away at Chester.

Mellon has no fresh injury concerns for the clash at Accrington.

One to watch

Winger Jordan Clark has become one of Accrington’s key players since he arrived at the club in August 2016, featuring over 150 times.

During his three years at the Wham Stadium, Clark was a part of the title-winning Stanley side who won Sky Bet League Two in 2017/18.

Starting his career at Barnsley, Clark would later represent Chesterfield, Scunthorpe United, Hyde United and Shrewsbury Town.

The 26-year-old Yorkshireman moved across the Pennines in 2016 and has since enjoyed success playing his football under boss Coleman.
