Match Preview: Wycombe Wanderers

20 November 2019

Setting the scene…

Tranmere Rovers head down to Wycombe Wanderers on Wednesday night to contest an Emirates FA Cup First-Round replay at Adams Park, kick-off 7:45pm.

Micky Mellon’s men face the Chairboys for the third time in 11 days following two home games against Gareth Ainsworth’s side.

Following on from the initial tie which finished 2-2 at Prenton Park, the two teams met again last Sunday in Sky Bet League One.

The winners on Wednesday will go onto host Chichester City on Sunday 1st December in the second-round.

Team News:

Liam Ridehalgh (foot) and David Perkins (hamstring), will both miss the cup tie in Buckinghamshire.

Ollie Banks, Evan Gumbs, Mark Ellis, Harvey Gilmour and Jordan Ponticelli will also miss out.

Meanwhile, Calum Woods is back in training, but the defender is unlikely to feature as he regains fitness.

One to Watch

Forward Adebayo Akinfenwa has made over 130 appearances since signing for Wycombe Wanderers in July 2016.

Londoner Akinfenwa is now on club number 14 of his career, which began in Lithuania with FK Atlantas.

He returned to the United Kingdom, turning out for Barry Town, before representing Boston United, Leyton Orient, Rushden and Diamonds, Torquay United, Swansea City, Millwall, Northampton Town and Gillingham.

After winning promotion with AFC Wimbledon, Akinfenwa, 37, joined Wycombe in 2016, scoring 42 goals in his three-years with the Chairboys at Adams Park.
