Smith reacts to Cambridge win

8 December 2018

Man of the Match Jonny Smith felt Tranmere Rovers' second half performance deserved all three points after a tough 1-0 victory against Cambridge United.

Smith played a huge part in the match winner as the league's top goal scorer, James Norwood, scored the match winner with 13 minutes to play.

Speaking in his post match press conference, the winger said: "In the second half, the gaffer made some changes tactically and it helped us massively. We pressed high up the pitch and it allowed us to get on the ball a bit more. The change paid off in the end.

"We were too deep as a team in the first half and when I was picking up the ball, I was collecting possession where I couldn’t affect the game. In the second half, we looked more dangerous.

"James Norwood has been unbelievable this season and he was in the right place to score the goal today.

"The conditions were tough, but they are something you have to face when you are a footballer. The wind played a big factor and Norwood was able to use his pace when we got balls in behind.

"We knew we needed to get back on it today and we have made the perfect start. We will now get ready for the next game at Notts County."
