Micky looks ahead to Accrington

6 December 2019

Tranmere Rovers manager Micky Mellon is looking forward to seeing his side return to Sky Bet League One action when they host Accrington Stanley at Prenton Park on Saturday afternoon.

Rovers are aiming for a third straight win in all competitions after an Emirates FA Cup triumph over Chichester City last Sunday before Wednesday night’s Leasing.com Trophy victory against Manchester United U21s.

But now the focus returns to the league, with John Coleman’s Stanley visit the Wirral.

Three points this weekend could see Rovers climb up to 16th in the third-tier standings ahead of the festive period of fixtures coming up over the next few weeks.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference to the local media on Friday, Mellon wants his players to keep moving in the right direction.

Mellon said: “We want to make sure that we want to keep moving forward in League One, and that’s the value of having a squad who can play in busy periods.

“All the games are important at any stage of the season, but the next one is the most important, so we’re looking forward to getting back to Prenton Park and playing in front of our fans in a Saturday afternoon game.

“We have had a fixture list where we’ve had games on a Sunday and a Wednesday, which threw us out of order a little bit.

“But it will be good to get back and I’m looking forward to seeing the boys perform for their Club.”
