Christine Roberts nominated for SLO of the Year!

13 November 2019

Tranmere Rovers’ very own Christine Roberts has been nominated for the SLO (Supporter Liaison Officer) of the Year at the Football Supporters’ Association Awards.

Christine, who is Head of Matchday and Brand Growth at Rovers, has been selected as a nominee for the award.

Rovers have a designated SLO team who help fans on a matchday at Prenton Park during TRFC first-team home fixtures.

And Christine went onto explain her SLO role at Tranmere Rovers and how the Club aim to give a better fan experience to the SWA.

Christine said: “I’m gobsmacked really as you don’t think about awards when you’re doing these roles, you just think about how important it is to the fan experience and the matchday experience, so I’m absolutely overwhelmed.

“Every league club has a Supporter Liaison Officer, and their role is to work with the fans and the Club to bridge that gap. We are really lucky that we have a great relationship with our fans and supporters’ groups.

“When we came back into the league, it became apparent that the game had moved on quite a lot, so I wanted to expand that role and realise I couldn’t do it on my own, so I looked to get other people to help me with my role.

“One of the things that is really important is that we’re a friendly and welcoming Club. We want everyone to be a part of the Tranmere family, if you’re an outsider and you’re not used to it, it can be quite intimidating, so we worked with the other supporters’ groups to really send the message across that people are welcome.

“There is four SLO’s who I work with, so we wanted it to make sure that the role represented the fans and it was from the fans side’s point of view, so that is really important.

“The demands of the SLO’s have changed. The SLO’s who cover a matchday, they help with the fan experience so they really engage with people on a matchday to make the experience as great as it possibly can.

“We want to make it as good as possible off the pitch, and we’ll continue to grow, working with the other supporters’ groups. We have had the Fans for Diversity and Rover and Out welcome events, so we are doing things away from a matchday.

“The SLO’s are here to show that we are a welcoming Club, regardless of your background, whether you’ve been to a game before, or this might be the first time. You’re always welcome at Tranmere and that is one of the big things we want to get across.”
