Micky looking forward to Wycombe test

8 November 2019

Tranmere Rovers manager Micky Mellon insists that Saturday afternoon’s Emirates FA Cup First-Round tie against Wycombe Wanderers at Prenton Park will prove “a great test” for his side.

Rovers host Gareth Ainsworth’s Chairboys as they begin their journey in this season’s competition.

Wycombe will head to the Wirral for the first of two games in eight days, with the teams meeting in Sky Bet League One next Sunday lunchtime.

The boss is looking forward to the challenge that awaits his players this weekend.

Mellon said: “We’re looking forward to taking part in the FA Cup, everybody should, it’s a brilliant competition and a home tie against a team that’s right up there at the top of the league is a great test for us.

“Like we always say, it is a great measurement of where we are at as a team and we’ll find out at the end of the game where we’re at, we always do.

“We’ll go out there and see how we do, but we’re looking forward to the challenge.

“We need to keep the Club going and keep moving it forward, I love the FA Cup and the promise of the opportunity it can give you, as it is exciting.

“We will get prepared properly and look to try and get a result on Saturday and move forward in the competition.

“We would like to think that everybody knows how tough it is to come to Prenton Park and get a result. We would like to think that everybody knows that you have to perform and play very well to beat us, and that’s what we have to make sure happens, we have to make sure we deliver on that.

“We need to understand where we are at as a football team, we need to keep improving but we’re certainly moving in the right direction and getting results helps us do that.

“It was very, very quickly back down to hard graft, to make sure that we keep trying to make everybody improve, the team improve and to keep moving forward.”
