Ladies Report - Tranmere Rovers 6-1 Sir Tom Finney

14 October 2019

Tranmere Rovers’ Ladies returned to winning ways, beating Sir Tom Finney FC 6-1 at Ellesmere Port Sport Village on Sunday, with Georgia Walters’ double inspiring the hosts to victory.

TRFC were beaten 1-0 away at Manchester Stingers last weekend but responded perfectly, hitting six to remain top of the North West Regional League.

Welsh international Walters, who recently won her first call-up to the Dragons’ national side, scored twice as Rovers are at the summit of the division, having collected 12 points from their opening six fixtures.

Also on the scoresheet were Lindsey Smith, Rachel Rigby, Dan Riley and Lucia Molinari, with Tranmere three points ahead of Manchester Stingers.

Walters grabbed her first goal in the opening half of action, with Smith also on target as Rovers led 2-1 at the half-time interval.

Backed on by members of the SWA who had come down to show their support to the table-topping Ladies, Tranmere controlled the second-half, as they went onto dominate the action.

Walters’ doubled her tally for the afternoon with a well-taken strike, with Rigby, and Molinari adding further goals to the scoreline, with a goal from Riley to round off the win. Tranmere securing a big three-points to remain as the pacesetters early on in the campaign.

It was a stylish display from the Ladies, who put the disappointment of last weekend behind them.

Rovers will aim to keep up their good form next Sunday, when hit the road for an away game at Merseyrail.

It was a winning weekend all round for Tranmere Rovers Ladies, as the development team won 2-0 and the U16s winning 3-1 both securing their place in the next round of the Liverpool County Cup.
