Tranmere Rovers manager Micky Mellon expects a tough test when Shrewsbury Town visit Prenton Park for a Sky Bet League One fixture on Saturday afternoon, kick-off 3pm.
Rovers are unbeaten in four home outings in front of the SWA, and entertain Sam Ricketts’ Salop, who make the journey up from Shropshire.
And after defeat away at league leaders Ipswich Town last weekend, Mellon wants his players to show progression and respond in the right manner.
Mellon said: “They are a tough, well organised side who will no doubt look forward to coming up and playing at Tranmere, like a lot of teams do, so it will be another tough game and we want to go out there and keep showing progression. That’s the key thing for us.
“We want to keep improving the team and keep moving it forward.
“Everyone wants to be in that first 11, and I believe every single week that I have been able to pick teams who I believe will be able to get Tranmere results. They have all been brought here to play first team football and I have been able to pick a strong team who can get us a result every week.
“I know I have to be patient as I know how it felt at the start of the season and where we are up to as a group, and we are still improving and still working very, very hard and I’m certainly looking forward to them continually improving so we’ll continue to keep working forward all of the time.”
Mellon celebrates three-years in charge at Tranmere this weekend, against the side that he left to return to the Wirral as boss in October 2016.
He added: “It’s strange the way things work out, and I’m more pleased with the three-years. Somebody told me the other day that I’m the 10th longest-serving manager in the league and it’s great that we have got to that milestone.”
