Rovers Rewind: 2005

25 October 2019

For each fixture this season, we will take a trip down memory lane to recall a Tranmere Rovers match against each of our Sky Bet League One opponents.

Doncaster Rovers are this afternoon’s visitors to Prenton Park in Sky Bet League One, so cast your mind back to Saturday 29th October 2005 when Tranmere went over to South Yorkshire and won 2-0.

TRFC, then managed by Brian Little, headed over the Pennines for a clash at Belle Vue, returning to Birkenhead with all three-points.

Tranmere ended an eight-hour goal drought in style, when Steve Davies as the claimed a win for the first time in 10 League One games.

Davies scored Tranmere’s first on 62 minutes, profiting from an error by goalkeeper Jan Budtz, who failed to clear the ball away to safety.

Steve Jennings notched the second of the afternoon in injury-time, driving home into the net after latching onto Chris Greenacre’s pass.

Tranmere finished 18th in the League One table at the end of the 2005/06 term.

TRFC: Achterberg, Linwood, Jackson, Sharps, Roberts, O'Leary, Rankine, Jennings, Facey, Greenacre, Davies (Goodison 69).

Subs Not Used: Zola, Aiston, Tremarco, Dagnall.

Attendance: 5, 542
