Rovers Rewind: Oxford 2014

13 September 2019

For each fixture this season, we will take a trip down memory lane to recall a Tranmere Rovers match against each of our Sky Bet League One opponents.

Micky Mellon’s men head to Oxford United for a Sky Bet League One clash at the Kassam Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

And in anticipation for our fixture, we’ll take you back five years to December 2014 for an FA Cup second-round replay, which was staged at Prenton Park.

Rovers’ had to do it the hard way as they progressed through to the third-round to secure a home tie against then-Premier League Swansea City.

Tranmere then found themselves behind on the half-hour when Alfie Potter headed past Owain Fon Williams.

Kayode Odejayi levelled the scores six minutes later after he scrambled Cole Stockton’s cross.

And Rovers won it with 76 minutes on the clock, as midfielder Max Power drove in to seal Tranmere’s passage.

TRFC: Fon Williams, Holmes (Jahraldo-Martin 66), Donacien, Ihiekwe, Holness, Ridehalgh, Rowe (Fenelon 66),Power, Jennings, Stockton (Laird 75), Odejayi
