MacDonald: My aspirations are to help Tranmere win football matches

19 August 2020

New Tranmere Rovers defender Calum MacDonald says there were a number of reasons behind his decision to want to come and join the Club on loan from Blackpool.

The former Scotland U21 international put pen to paper on a season long loan on Wednesday afternoon and will add further defensive options for Rovers heading into the 2020/21 season.

In an exclusive interview with the Club website, MacDonald explained how he can't wait to represent the football club, and to be involved in squad so focused and determined to achieve their targets this upcoming season.

He said: "I am absolutely buzzing to get the deal over the line. I know obviously Jay and the assistant manager (Ian Dawes) very well. Jay spoke very highly of the Club when I talked to him, so it is good to know people before you come in.

"A few different things attracted me to Prenton Park, the size of the Club, the fan base and those reasons go without saying. But the ambition of the football club and the way the season finished last season, you can really see and tell there is a fire in the players, the fans and the Club to get back to where they really belong.

"My aspirations are to help Tranmere win football matches and ultimately help the Club win promotion.

"I tasted League One football last season with Blackpool and I am ready to play on a more consistent basis and do a good job for Tranmere Rovers.

'I remember the night very well when Tranmere played against Blackpool. I remember it being a big game for Tranmere and what stuck with me was at the end of the match, you could see the connection between the players and the fans, and a real togetherness.

"Tranmere fans were one of the loudest I saw last season and it is so good to play in front of a crowd like that cheering you on.

"I have spoken to the manager, he has told me his values, what he expects from me and from the dressing room as a whole. He wants a real togetherness and it feels nice to feel so wanted."

MacDonald has signed up for the new season, and with the fixtures released this coming Friday, it is the perfect time to sign up for a season ticket. To do so, please CLICK HERE .
