Setting the scene…

Tranmere Rovers are back at Prenton Park this Saturday when they host promotion-chasing Ipswich Town in Sky Bet League One.

Rovers return to third-tier action in front of the SWA aiming to build on last weekend’s clean sheet in their goalless draw away at Southend United.

Visiting Birkenhead are Paul Lambert’s Tractor Boys, who make the journey up from Portman Road currently third in the table, two points off the automatic promotion places.

Team news

Liam Ridehalgh and Ollie Banks could make their first starts since returning from recent injuries.

Scott Davies, Mark Ellis and Evan Gumbs all remain out of action, while Rushian Hepburn-Murphy is doubtful.

One to watch

Former Tranmere Rovers forward James Norwood signed for Ipswich Town in July 2019.

Norwood started his career at hometown club Eastbourne prior to turning out for Exeter City, Sutton United and Forest Green Rovers.

He made over 180 appearances at Forest Green between 2011-2015 prior to his Tranmere switch.

Norwood’s time at Prenton Park proved successful, where he spent four years on the Wirral and helped Rovers win back-to-back promotions.

His 32-goals in 2018/19 earned him Sky Bet League Two’s Golden Boot award.

Norwood, 29, leads the Tractor Boys’ goal charts since his summer switch to Suffolk.
