Micky proud of FA Cup run

26 January 2020

Tranmere Rovers manager Micky Mellon gave his honest assessment of his side’s home defeat to Manchester United in the Emirates FA Cup fourth-round at Prenton Park on Sunday afternoon.

Goals from Harry Maguire, Diogo Dalot, Jesse Lingard, Phil Jones, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood saw Rovers bow out to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Red Devils.

And speaking in his post-match press conference, Micky had his say on the cup tie.

Mellon said: ”When their centre-back bends it in from 25-yards is definitely a different thing to what we normally face, but we now stand here and say we got everything and more out of this cup run, financially and exposure wise, we got everything we wanted.

“Now it will be about what the season has always been about, and that is keeping Tranmere in this division from a team that was in Non-League two years ago.

“I thought that we started well, and we caused them problems and we had a few opportunities. You could see that the crowd was up, but any mistake that you make, there is a danger that you could be undone by quality.

“It was important that we took part in the game and keep representing the Club properly and practice being a good player against a good player, as we won’t get the chance to do that again this season.

“We need to learn our lessons and keep moving forward and improve.”
