Joe Starbuck made his first start for Tranmere Rovers, in a 1-0 loss to Leicester City U21's in the EFL Trophy.
The 21-year-old full-back impressed despite the defeat, and is motivated to fight for his spot in league fixtures.
"My future is only up to me. I have to come in, be the best I can be every time, keep improving and learn off the players.
"Football waits for no one. I've got to get ready and get to the levels of everyone else."
