Nigel Adkins speaks after Leicester City U21 defeat

10 October 2023

Nigel Adkins was disappointed with his Tranmere Rovers side's performance after they exited the EFL Trophy with a 1-0 defeat at home to Leicester City U21 on Tuesday evening.

Rovers were undone in the first half when Joe Yarney's header back to Joe Murphy was pounced on by Wanya Marcal and squared to Silko Thomas for a simple tap-in.

The hosts hit the the woodwork three times but came away with nothing to show for their chances, as they were eliminated from the competition with a group game to spare.

"I'm disappointed, I wanted us to win the game," said Adkins post-match. "We gave a shocking goal away and something for them to hold on to.

"They've camped in, it's up to us to break them down. We hit the woodwork three times, the goalkeeper had an inspired performance. On another day you probably win five or six, but we haven't done."
