Tranmere Rovers Women returned to winning ways with a 9-0 win away to Pilkington in the FA Cup.

Rovers got their FA Cup campaign underway on Sunday afternoon and immediately looked to get on the scoresheet, but Izzy Arrowsmith was denied a shot on goal after a foul on the keeper.

Tranmere continued their pressure with a flurry of shot and the got the breakthrough on 16 minutes when Captain Lindsey Smith headed home from an Ellie Doyle corner from the right.

Minutes later it was 2-0 when Ellie Doyle fires home from range after great work from Izzy Arrowsmith who drove forward before teeing up Doyle.

Half an hour into the game Tranmere were awarded a penalty for a foul in the area and Doyle made no mistake from the spot sending the keeper the wrong way and ten minutes later she’d complete a first half hattrick with a low long-range drive after a Bowers Folan run on the right.

Tranmere started the second half as strong as the first and had a fifth goal near the hour mark when Amy Shannon who had just entered the field of play cut in from the left and sent a wonderful curling effort into the top corner.

With 20 minutes from time Jess Brady got her first goal for the club after some great footwork on the edge of the area allowed her space for a left footed shot which found the top corner and shortly after she doubled her account with a long range right footed drive.

The clock ticked to 85 minutes and it was time for another substitute to make an impact as Elisha Price lobbed the keeper to make it 8-0 before Ellie Doyle complete the rout minutes from time after she converted a Bowers Folan cross from the right of the area to get her fourth of the game.

The referee blew the fulltime whistle in St Helens as Tranmere Rovers advanced to the next round of the FA Cup where they eagerly await the draw.

Up next, Tranmere Rovers Women return to league action with a challenging fixture against Salford City Lionesses at Ellesmere Port Sports Village on Sunday, 8th October, with kick-off scheduled for 2pm.
