Match Report: Crawley Town 3-2 Tranmere Rovers

16 September 2023

Tranmere Rovers lost out to Crawley Town in stoppage time by three goals to two on Saturday afternoon.

Interim boss Nigel Adkins made several changes in his first Rovers starting eleven with Connor Wood making his first start for Tranmere as well as Reece McAlear, Brad Walker, Josh Hawkes and Charlie Jolley all returning from the start.

Rovers had the first real chance of the game four minutes in when McAlear found space in the box to pull the ball back for Connor Jennings, but the shot was over the bar.

Tranmere opened the scoring on 22 minutes when Sam Taylor played Jolley in on the Crawley keeper, and the striker took his time to calmly stroke the ball home.

Adkins’ side were forced to soak up some pressure from the hosts as the half progressed, but ultimately took a one-goal lead into the break.

Crawley bagged their equaliser on 61 minutes, Ronan Darcy finding space to put the hosts on level terms.

Following a pause in play due to bottles and flares being thrown onto the pitch, Taylor put Rovers back in the lead following an excellent ball by Walker.

Almost immediately, though, Crawley were back on level terms through Nick Tsaroulla.

Both sides looked to change things up with several substitutions as the game progressed, but found themselves deadlocked.

Crawley snatched a winner deep in added time through substitute Lolos to take the points.
