Hill looks ahead to Morecambe clash

29 January 2021

Tranmere Rovers manager Keith Hill is expecting a difficult game away at Morecambe on Saturday in Sky Bet League Two, but he is confident that his side can get a result.

Rovers head to the Lancashire coast having secured three straight wins at Prenton Park against Forest Green, Bolton and Harrogate which moved them up to eighth, level on points with the top seven.

Derek Adams’ promotion-chasing Shrimps are the opponents this weekend, with Morecambe in an automatic promotion place ahead of kick-off.

And Hill knows that Rovers face a tough test, however he is buoyed by their recent winning run.

Hill said: “It will be a difficult game, but it is a game that we are really looking forward to and we don’t fear anyone, and we have got a lot of confidence.

“I think Morecambe are doing brilliantly. Derek Adams is a terrific manager and I remember what he did at Plymouth. He was there for nearly five years and he had some great years.

“He’s turned Morecambe into promotion candidates, they are very difficult to play against, but they are very pleasing to watch.

“It will be about scrapping, it will be about tacking and contesting and winning duels, and ultimately then we want to go and play football.

“It is an exciting game to be going into considering the type of form that both teams are in, and we are just hoping for another good team performance.”

Hill hopes that his men can keep up their current form going into the second half of the season, and he understands what Rovers must do to be successful.

He added: “Nothing has been established, nothing has been decided and with 22 games to go, it doesn’t matter where you are in the league.

“We need to be in a position where we are challenging over the next 12 games going into the last 10 games of the season.

“We all want to be successful. We have got 22 games to play in the league and it is going to take everybody’s efforts to be successful.

“We are pleased with the results and the performances that we have had, but I am now looking at the next 22 games and what we have got to do to achieve our dream and ambition, which is promotion.”
