Clarke looks ahead to Saturday's match vs Colchester

6 May 2021

Centre-back Peter Clarke says it has been a “positive” week as Tranmere Rovers prepare for the visit of Colchester United to Prenton Park on Saturday.

Keith Hill’s men are back in action at their home ground for the final day of the Sky Bet League Two season and will secure a top seven finish with a point.

And Clarke feels that there is a positive atmosphere in the squad ahead of this weekend’s game.

“It’s been a positive atmosphere this week. It was obviously disappointing down at Forest Green, but we have got another opportunity, and we now go into the game on Saturday against Colchester.

“We have worked hard on the training ground, and we have left no stone unturned about the way we are going to play and how we are going to play and what we feel will be the strengths and weaknesses of Colchester.

“We’ll be going out fully bursting and in the knowledge of what needs to be done and there has been real positivity around the training ground, so we’ll go into the game full of confidence, ready for it and ready to take the opportunity.

“We’ve got a group of players who care but we know that we have to keep emotions in check on Saturday and make sure that we do everything in our capabilities to be in the best possible position to get the result that we need and to do that in the most efficient way possible way.

“We have an opportunity to make sure that we are in the play-off positions come tea-time on Saturday.

“We’ve got to make sure that collectively and react in the best way that we can.

“We want to win every game that we play and it’s another game. If you have good habits, if you train properly and live your life properly, eat and hydrate properly, all those things take care of the bigger picture, and it gives you the best opportunity to perform to your maximum.

“There’s lads here with lots of experience, and even the younger lads, who know what they are doing on a football pitch, so the key is your preparation and doing everything to make sure that you are at your best come 3pm on Saturday.

“The key issue is that we have everything in our own hands to make sure that we are in those Play-Offs and we have a home game against a team who we believe that we have enough quality in our squad to overcome.”
