Former Tranmere Rovers player Alex Hay will be completing a double marathon in two days next month to raise funds for Clatterbridge Cancer Charity, finishing the first marathon at Prenton Park prior to our game with AFC Wimbledon, before running the London Marathon the following day.
After completing the London Marathon in 2022, Hay will be going a step further with the double this time around, with Rovers supporters invited to come along early to the AFC Wimbledon game (Saturday 20th April, 3pm kick-off) to support him at the finish of the first leg.

“After I did the London Marathon in 2022, it was very hard work but I enjoyed certain aspects of it. The experience and raising money for Clatterbridge Cancer Charity made me feel really positive," Alex told us.
Alex’s dad used to work for Tranmere Rovers, and was recently diagnosed with terminal cancer. “It hit us all hard, but seeing his attitude towards it and how he’s saying how he’s living with cancer rather than dying of it, is really positive."
Alex will of course be finishing the first leg of his double marathon at Prenton Park, and has spoken of the feelings it will evoke coming across the finish line at the Club he loves and where he started his career. “It’ll be emotional, I think the whole idea of it is emotional. The fact that I’m doing it for such a big charity in the local area and something that hits everyone in one way or another, and I’m going through something really tough at the moment.
“It’ll obviously be emotional, but whenever I go back to Tranmere I get emotional, some of the best parts of my life have been spent there.”
Clatterbridge Cancer Charity is a cause close to Alex’s heart, but one he feels raising money for can benefit the wider community: “It’s such a big thing in the Merseyside area, everyone will know someone who has been to Clatterbridge or is going through something similar to what I am at the moment so I wanted to do something for the local community because it means that much to me and I try and give back as much as I can."
Supporters are encouraged to come down to Prenton Park early ahead of the AFC Wimbledon game to support Alex as he finishes the first leg of his journey at his boyhood Club.
