Match Preview | Walsall (H)

4 April 2024

Tranmere Rovers host Walsall in our penultimate home game of the season this Saturday 6th April (3pm kick-off).

Nigel Adkins’ side will be looking to finish the season strongly following Easter Monday’s draw with Colchester United, so will be hoping to take three points this weekend.

Walsall still harbour play-off hopes in 11th place, sitting three points off the final play-off place.

Team news:

Knocks to Brad Walker and Connor Wood will be assessed ahead of the game after the pair missed out on the Easter Weekend games.

Kieron Morris came off injured at the weekend, and will also be assessed ahead of this one.

One to watch: Isaac Hutchinson

23-year-old midfielder Hutchinson has 11 goals and 10 assists for the Saddlers this term, so will likely prove a handful for the Rovers defence.

Hutchinson spent eight years of his youth with Brighton & Hove Albion before beginning his senior career with Southend United. He then moved to Derby County and spent loan spells with Crawley Town and Forest Green prior to joining Walsall in summer 2022.

Manager: Mat Sadler

39-year-old Sadler is in the first job of his managerial career at Walsall, having initially agreed a deal as interim manager in April last year before being given the permanent job as head coach the following month.

As a player, the defender spent much of his career with Shrewsbury Town, representing the Shrews over four years between 2015 and 2019. Sadler started his career with Birmingham City, where he made over 50 senior appearances, also representing England at youth level.
